# Mojito recipe — ingredients and how to make it

Mint, lime and rum: the most familiar drink of long summer evenings, ready in five minutes. Copy the ingredients to your room, tick off what's missing at the shop, and keep the steps open on your phone.

*1 glass · 5 min*

**In short:** A Mojito takes 40 ml white rum, 30 ml lime juice (about 1 lime), 6–8 mint leaves, 2 teaspoons of sugar, soda water and crushed ice; it is ready in 5 minutes. Gently press the mint with the lime juice and sugar in the glass, add the rum and ice, then top up with soda. Pressing rather than shredding the mint keeps it from turning bitter.

## Ingredients

- White rum — 40 ml
- Lime — 1 (30 ml juice)
- Fresh mint — 6–8 leaves
- Caster sugar — 2 tsp
- Soda water — to top up
- Crushed ice — 1 glass full
- Mint sprig — to garnish
- Lime wedge — to garnish

## Method

1. Squeeze the lime into a tall glass (about 30 ml of juice) and add the sugar. Stir until it begins to dissolve.
2. Add the mint leaves and press them gently with a muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon. You want to release the oils, not shred the leaves; over-crushed mint turns bitter.
3. Pour in the rum, fill the glass halfway with crushed ice and stir from the bottom up with a long spoon.
4. Top up with soda water and give it one more gentle stir. Add a little more crushed ice if needed.
5. Slap the mint sprig lightly between your palms to wake up its aroma, then garnish with it and the lime wedge.
6. Serve right away with a straw, before the ice melts.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which rum is best for a Mojito?

The classic calls for white (light) rum: it doesn't overpower the drink, so the mint and lime stay in front. A dark or aged rum gives a rounder, spicier drink, but it moves away from the classic Mojito flavour.

### Why does my Mojito taste bitter?

Usually the mint has been crushed too hard; once the leaves tear, bitter compounds leak into the drink. Just press the leaves gently, don't grind or twist them, and use whole leaves rather than chopped mint.

### How do I make a non-alcoholic Mojito (Virgin Mojito)?

Follow the same recipe without the rum: gently press the lime juice, sugar and mint in the glass, add ice and fill to the top with soda water. It stays fresh and light; if you like it sweeter, add a little more sugar.

### Can I change the list?

Of course. The ready-made list is just a starting point: delete, add, move items between categories.

### Do I need an account?

No. A room code is all it takes — no email, password or signup.

### How long is the list kept?

As long as you use it. A list is only deleted after a month without any activity; even opening the room resets the clock.

### Can I install it on my phone?

Yes. With the room open, tap "Save Room" to add it to your home screen and open it with one tap.
