Beginner volleyball gear list — what you need for indoor and beach
You don't need much to start volleyball, but whether you play indoors or on the beach changes what you buy. This list separates what helps in the first practices from what can wait. Share it with a room code with your teammates; no sign-up needed.
In short
The equipment you need to start volleyball is a volleyball, plus volleyball shoes and knee pads if you play indoors; on the beach you usually play barefoot. Add a sports T-shirt or jersey, shorts, socks, a water bottle and a towel. For the beach, you also need sunscreen and a cap. A sweatband, finger tape and a ball pump aren't needed in the first days and can wait.

Tips
Indoor and beach volleyball differ: indoors, shoes and knee pads matter most; on the beach you usually play barefoot and sun protection becomes important.
Try knee pads on before buying to check they sit comfortably; ones that are too tight or slide down get in the way.
Wear your indoor shoes only inside; dust from outside makes the sole slippery.
Start every practice with 5-10 minutes of light jogging and shoulder, wrist and knee movements; if pain lingers, see a doctor or physiotherapist.
How it works
1. Open your room
Tap the button and the items land in a fresh room. No account, no email, nothing to install.
2. Share the code
Send the room code or the link to the group; everyone's on the same list in seconds.
3. Finish it together
Who's buying what shows up instantly; bought items get ticked, so nobody buys the same thing twice.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between indoor and beach volleyball?
Indoor volleyball is played on a hard floor, usually six against six, and shoes and knee pads matter. Beach volleyball is played on sand, mostly two against two, barefoot, and sun protection counts for more.
Do you need special shoes for volleyball?
If you play indoors, yes, volleyball shoes are worth getting; they give grip and cushioning for jumps, sudden stops and sideways movement. On the beach, you don't wear shoes.
Are knee pads necessary in volleyball?
They aren't mandatory, but in indoor play, where diving and sliding are common, they help protect your knees from friction and impact. Try them on before buying to make sure they sit comfortably.
Can I change the list?
Of course. The ready-made list is just a starting point: delete, add, move items between categories.
Do I need an account?
No. A room code is all it takes — no email, password or signup.
How long is the list kept?
As long as you use it. A list is only deleted after a month without any activity; even opening the room resets the clock.
Can I install it on my phone?
Yes. With the room open, tap "Save Room" to add it to your home screen and open it with one tap.
