Pet emergency kit list — a go-bag for your companion too

In an emergency such as an earthquake, fire or evacuation, your pet needs a ready bag too; when there's no time to search, having everything in one place makes things easier. Share the list through a room code with your household so it's clear who prepares which item. No sign-up needed.

In short

A pet emergency kit starts with a few days of food and water, food and water bowls, a carrier or crate and a lead. Add a copy of the vaccination record and of ID and microchip details, a recent photo, regular medication, a blanket and waste bags or cat litter. Ask your vet which medicines and supplies your pet needs.

16 items go straight into your new room; delete what you don't need, add what's missing. No account needed.

Tips

  • Don't prepare the kit once and forget it; check and refresh the food, water and medication expiry dates every few months.

  • Get your pet used to the carrier in advance; keeping it in a corner with the door open and treats inside makes it easier to get them in during an emergency.

  • Keep microchip records and contact details up to date; an ID tag with your phone number on the collar helps if your pet gets lost.

  • Work out in advance where you and your pet could stay if you must evacuate (a friend's home, pet-friendly lodging, a vet), as not every shelter accepts animals.

Frequently asked questions

How many days of food and water should you set aside for a pet?

Setting aside at least a few days of food and drinking water is a good start; the need varies with your pet's species, size and feeding routine. Ask your vet for the right amount.

Why does microchip information matter?

If your pet gets lost and is found, a registered microchip lets people reach you. For that, the record and your contact details must be up to date; put a copy of the chip number in the kit.

How should pet medication be stored in an emergency kit?

Keep it in its original packaging, check the expiry date and refresh it every few months. Ask your vet which medicines to include and how to store them, and add a copy of the prescription.

Can I change the list?

Of course. The ready-made list is just a starting point: delete, add, move items between categories.

Do I need an account?

No. A room code is all it takes — no email, password or signup.

How long is the list kept?

As long as you use it. A list is only deleted after a month without any activity; even opening the room resets the clock.

Can I install it on my phone?

Yes. With the room open, tap "Save Room" to add it to your home screen and open it with one tap.
