Newborn shopping list — get ready before baby arrives

There is so much to buy before a baby arrives that it is easy to lose track of what you already have. This list gathers the newborn essentials, and when shared through a room code, relatives who want to give a gift can see what is still missing. No sign-up needed.

In short

A newborn mainly needs diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, bodysuits, sleepsuits, booties, hats, muslin cloths and a blanket; add a crib and sheets for sleep, a bathtub and hooded towel for bath time, bottles and pacifiers for feeding, and a stroller and car seat for going out. Buying the big items a few weeks before the birth and choosing some clothes a size up is a common recommendation.

Tips

  • Don't buy everything in newborn size; babies grow fast, so make a few pieces the next size up.

  • Wash clothes, blankets and sheets before first use and have them ready; there won't be time once the baby is here.

  • Buy big items like the stroller and car seat at least a few weeks before the birth, leaving time for delivery and set-up.

  • You don't have to buy everything before the birth; get what the first weeks need and fill in the rest once you see what the baby needs.

How it works

  1. 1. Open your room

Tap the button and the items land in a fresh room. No account, no email, nothing to install.

Send the room code or the link to the group; everyone's on the same list in seconds.

  3. 3. Finish it together

Who's buying what shows up instantly; bought items get ticked, so nobody buys the same thing twice.

Frequently asked questions

How many bodysuits and sleepsuits does a newborn need?

A common recommendation is about 6-8 bodysuits and 4-6 sleepsuits; babies get messy and laundry piles up, so adjust the number to how often you wash. Rather than buying everything in newborn size, pick some a size up.

How many diapers should you buy for a newborn?

Newborns can go through about 8-12 diapers a day in the first weeks. Because babies grow fast, it's more practical to start with one or two small packs of newborn diapers and top up as you go.

What should a newborn's sleeping space be like?

Use a firm, flat mattress with a snug, fitted sheet, keep pillows, loose blankets, soft toys and bumpers out of the cot, and lay the baby on their back. Check that the product meets safety standards, and ask your doctor or health visitor about safe sleep.

Can I change the list?

Of course. The ready-made list is just a starting point: delete, add, move items between categories.

Do I need an account?

No. A room code is all it takes — no email, password or signup.

How long is the list kept?

As long as you use it. A list is only deleted after a month without any activity; even opening the room resets the clock.

Can I install it on my phone?

Yes. With the room open, tap "Save Room" to add it to your home screen and open it with one tap.
