Homemade lemonade recipe — a pitcher with fresh mint

A hot day, a pitcher and real lemons: fresher than anything from a bottle, and you decide how sweet it is. Copy the ingredients to your room, tick off what's missing at the shop, and keep the steps open on your phone.

6 glasses · 15 min

In short

Homemade lemonade takes the juice of 6 lemons (about 250 ml), 150 g sugar and 1.25 litres of cold water, which makes about 6 glasses. Dissolve the sugar in 250 ml of water for a syrup, stir it with the lemon juice and the remaining cold water in a pitcher, add mint and chill for at least 1 hour. It takes about 15 minutes.

Ingredients

  • Lemons6 (≈250 ml juice)
  • Sugar150 g
  • Water1.25 litres
  • Fresh mint1 small bunch
  • Icefor serving
  • Lemon slices1, for serving
  • Sparkling water500 ml, optional
  • Strawberries6, optional

Method

  1. Wash the lemons and roll them under your palm on the counter before juicing; they give up their juice more easily. Squeeze and strain: you should have about 250 ml of juice.

  2. In a small pan, heat 150 g sugar with 250 ml water until the sugar dissolves completely; there's no need to boil. Let it cool.

  3. Pour the lemon juice, the cooled syrup and the remaining 1 litre of cold water into a pitcher and stir.

  4. Taste and adjust: add a little syrup if it's too sour, or a little lemon juice or water if it's too sweet.

  5. Slap the mint lightly between your palms, drop it into the pitcher and chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour.

  6. Pour over ice, garnish with a lemon slice and mint. For a sparkling version, add cold sparkling water in place of some of the still water just before serving.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my lemonade taste bitter?

The bitterness usually comes from the white pith and the seeds. Don't squeeze the lemons too aggressively, strain out the seeds and don't leave the peel steeping in the liquid.

Can I make lemonade with honey instead of sugar?

Yes: about 100–120 g of honey dissolved in the warm water works in place of 150 g of sugar. Honey adds its own flavour, so choose sugar for a more neutral taste, and sweeten gradually, tasting as you go.

How long does homemade lemonade keep in the fridge?

In a covered pitcher it stays good for up to 2–3 days in the fridge. Add the mint and ice just before serving so it doesn't get watery, and don't drink it if the smell or taste turns off.

Can I change the list?

Of course. The ready-made list is just a starting point: delete, add, move items between categories.

Do I need an account?

No. A room code is all it takes — no email, password or signup.

How long is the list kept?

As long as you use it. A list is only deleted after a month without any activity; even opening the room resets the clock.

Can I install it on my phone?

Yes. With the room open, tap "Save Room" to add it to your home screen and open it with one tap.
